London Marathon – CLIC Charity Cheque Presentation - Monday, June 21, 2010 at 08:03
 

A presentation was held on Friday at the offices of the British Racing Drivers’ Club at Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire at which a small group of the BRDC Marathon Legends who took part in the London Marathon in April were in attendance. The small gathering presented a cheque to the CLIC Sargent foundation which benefitted from the amazing amount of money the Legends raised as part of their triumphant efforts in running the famous event.


In total a cheque for £100,000 was presented to the CLIC Sargent foundation. CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity which supports children, young people and their families through cancer every step of the way. Caring for children and young people with cancer it provides some of the most important services, Nurses, Social Workers, Play Therapists, Home from Home Support, Research, Financial Support and Advice as well as Holidays.

In total 14 BRDC members took part in the London Marathon to help raise funds for CLIC Sargent, and it was Oliver Gavin who led the BRDC Marathon Legends home in a time of 2.54.19hrs followed closely by Stuart Hall and Johnny Kane both of whom also broke the 3 hour barrier. All of the drivers finished inside 4.5 hours, Marino himself stopping the clock at 3.46.04hrs.


“It was a tremendous effort by all the guys and I’m just delighted that we were able to raise such an amazing amount of money for such a worthy cause and we want to thank everyone who kindly supported us and made this total possible” said Marino.
